"Breakfast at Lei's"

This painting is one of my personal favorites.   I set my table up outside in the great Maui light with my favorite teapot and vintage Hawaiian print tablecloth and painted away.  The abundant tropical fruit here on the Island makes a great, quick breakfast, not to mention a pretty table.   Papaya is a tropical delight.

"Hana Flowers"

Our Tropical Flowers decorate all the local houses.   I pulled this arrangement off my dining room table and painted it in my favorite vase.  I superimposed it over what I imagined at the time would be my dream window view.

"Na Pua O' Hawaii"

(The Flowers of Hawaii)

This particular Orchid painting was commissioned by a German couple who vacations on Maui frequently.  They wanted to take that "tropical feeling" home with them, so they could gaze at it during the long winter months, dreaming of their return.

"Tutu Wahines"

(The Grandmothers)

This is a whimsical painting that depicts some of the older Wahines from the famous Kodak Hula Show.  They are still doing their best at "entertaining" with music and song.   At one time these ladies were the graceful hula dancers of days gone by.

"Tutu with Mo'opuna"

(Grandmother with Grandchildren)

This painting depicts an outing at the beach, perhaps a Sunday afternoon.  Two rambunctious boys are giving their Tutu collected coconuts, a great treat earned from their hard efforts.

"Keiki Wahine"

(Child Woman)

This pastel painting is one of the few that was actually taken from a subject not here on Maui.    On one of my visits to Tahiti, I saw this young lady (not quite a woman and not quite a child) sitting on the beach with two of her girlfriends.   I am always in awe of the young Polynesian girls' graceful beauty.  In her hair she is wearing a lei that she and her friends had woven of seaweed, a brilliant idea.

"Hawaii of Old"

I love the idea that this lifestyle still exists on all the Hawaiian Islands.  This young lady watches idly by as her kane, or man, fishes for their supper in his red malo, or wrap...

Those were the days.....

"Maui Mango"

This is another of my favorite breakfast foods.  Mangos make a beautiful study with their brilliant color and form.

" Maui Pineapple"

Another great study in color and form...

A staple of Maui.
