"Kahakuloa
Patches"
This
scene is one of my favorites of the Kahakuloa Village
lifestyle. One of our industrious farmers has his
taro patches on this beautiful site. Taro is the
plant that poi is
made
from, a staple of the Hawaiian diet. The ever-looming
Elephant Mountain stands in the distance as a great landmark
for all who pass this way.

 |
"Mystic
Falls "
This
painting comes from a place deep in the Kahakuloa Valley.
Hawaiians have always had a respect for their
fresh water and settled their communities around their
base.
With out it they could not grow their taro for the poi
they make, as taro is grown in shallow water ponds.
As there is no city water to date, the people
of Kahakuloa greatly depend on this year-round
running stream as the only water source forthe
community.

|
"Kula
Sunset "
Kula
is a Maui community high on the slopes of Haleakala Crater.
From its beautiful pasture lands you can view the
panoramic South Maui sights all the way from Maalea to
Makena. It
is a breathtaking sight at sunset.

"Wainapanapa"
This
scenic sight can be found in Hana, Maui. Hana is
world
famous for its remote beauty and lush tropical vegetation.
When I want to disappear for a quiet, idylic
weekend, this is one of the
places top on my list.

"Makena
Koi Gardens"
I
love koi fish, and this fishpond can be found at the Prince
Hotel
in Makena, Maui, one of the locals' favorite haunts for
celebrating. They welcome kamaaina and malahini
(locals and newcomers) alike with open arms....and I
think they serve the best Sunday brunch on the island...

|
"Olowalu"
This
painting is a wonderful testimony to our rich agriculture
history
here on Maui. These sugar cane fields are slowly
disappearing
from the islands as agriculture takes a back seat to tourism
and commerce. The majestic West Maui Mountains can
be seen
in the background and make the perfect backdrop.
|
|
|
"Kahakuloa
Church"
This
quaint church lies nestled in the Valley with dramatic
coastal
views and the towering Elephant Mountain in the background.
The church was founded in 1892 and has the
clean and simple lines that the missionaries were so fond
of.

|
"Iao
Gardens"
This
oriental-style garden is an aesthetic retreat in the well-known
Iao Needle Park in Central Maui. It contains
several tropical
gardens, each one centering around a different nationality
of
people that immigrated to Hawaii over the years.
Most of them came
to Maui to be employed at the plantations as migrant workers.
This park includes the Chinese, Japanese, Portugese
and
Filipino style gardens and a small replica of each of
their style of house.

|
|
"Kahakuloa
Hale"
This
picturesque cottage sits way up in the Kahakuloa Valley.
To get there and paint it, I had to travel on a
dirt road, walk over two swinging
bridges, and meander on a trail through staircases of
taro patches and lush tropical vegetation.
